Physicals & Annual Check-ups Q & A

What Happens During a Physical Exam?

The best way to sustain your health and prevent medical conditions from becoming a concern is to visit the doctor yearly for a physical and check-up exam. For most patients the check-up will follow a pattern and will start with the collection of their medical and family history. The physician will also assess the patient for indications of a medical illness or irregularity. These checkups help to stop conditions from becoming worse and ensure that care for the situation can start as soon as possible. When an illness is discovered early it is typically much easier to care for. Vital signs will also generally be taken to assist the doctor with getting an idea of what the person’s overall health is like and will include breathing levels, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature. When patients get older, preventative screenings will be necessary.
